Understanding Educational Purchasing

Learn More About District-Level Purchasing Trends

Listen to the MCH webinar, Understanding Educational Purchasing, to learn more about the recently commissioned District Administration (DA) K-12 Buyer Survey.

Daniel Kinnaman, DA Publisher, covered district-level trends in purchasing responsibilities, utilization of purchasing teams, specific budget forecasts for the 2012-2013 school year, and district administrators’ personal influence regarding purchases.

Richard Abramson, former Superintendent of Readfield, ME schools, provided insight into how senior-level district staff members collaborate on purchasing decisions, the K-12 budget cycle, branding, and effective marketing methods to reach school district decision makers.

A few highlights include:

  • 71% of the district administrators surveyed indicated they have greater responsibility for major investments and assessing risk related to those investments.
  • 87% of the districts surveyed use a team approach to purchasing.
  • 2012-2013 expenditures in all product categories are projected to increase.
  • The budget cycle, timing, and branding are critical elements in purchase decisions.
