John Hood to Retire as President of MCH Strategic Data

JohnHood_200MCH Strategic Data has announced that John Hood is planning to retire at the end of this year, after 18 years as president.

John began his career in 1964 as a buyer for Baker & Taylor in Hillside N.J., then spent over 50 years dedicating his professional life to the advancement of the educational marketplace. He joined Market Data Retrieval (MDR) in 1981, becoming vice president and general manager before leaving to establish the K-12 educational marketing division of famed Internet incubator CMGI. John joined MCH as president in 1997, and over the next 18 years oversaw its expansion from a small, rural list company into a technologically advanced data compilation presence.

“John has been a great partner and responsible for so many MCH innovations over the years,” said Peter Long, CEO of MCH Strategic Data. “His DNA is that of an investigator and inventor. I’ve been fascinated by his ability to turn technology and raw data into valuable tools and insights that truly move the needle for marketers.” Long continued, “John introduced numerous new services and products to the marketplace that advance the cause of the marketing profession.”

“John has a true passion for understanding market needs, the coming effects of legislation, emerging trends, and responding with thoughtful solutions,” said Larry Buchweitz, MCH Director of Sales. “He always pushes for organizational excellence. MCH is certainly a much better company because of his tireless contributions.”

The Mark of an Engaged Leader

johncombine-cropEvery morning, John made it his mission to pass through the office to visit and greet every MCH team member. He’s great fun to be around, with his many stories, his passion for the New York Giants (in Kansas City Chiefs territory), and his shift from Manhattan urbanite to Farmer John (known for bringing in his various home grown peppers and garlic). Most recently, John fulfilled his wish to ride a farm “combine” harvesting tractor before retiring.

“I can enjoy my retirement knowing that I leave MCH in very capable hands,” John said. “Our senior management team is the strongest team I have ever worked with, and we’re doing so many things right now. This is such an exciting time at MCH — it’s really hard to leave when so many thing are finally falling into place. But I feel it is far better to make room for the next generation when things are on a fantastic roll for the company. At 73 years old, the time is right for me to leave and enjoy the next phase of my life while I still can.” John plans to stay in the Midwest and enjoy some long overdue travel plans with his wife, Hope.
