Iowa’s Democratic-led Senate has approved an education spending package that would increase public school funding by 6% in the 2015-2016 school year. The measures now go to the Republican controlled House which has no plans to consider them. (Des Moines Register)

Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett, a Republican, has unveiled a budget proposal that includes an increase of $400 million in education funding. A majority of the funds would be part of a new “Ready to Learn” initiative that lets districts choose various programs for the extra funding.  (Philadelphia Inquirer)

Cobb County Schools (Georgia) Superintendent Michael Hinojosa announced his resignation, taking the area by surprise. “I announced this to my family back in the holidays,” Hinojosa said. “I was looking for the right time to make the announcement,” he said. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution
