Brian Rick has been working in education for over twenty years, most recently as Director of Research and Assessment in Bellingham Public Schools in Washington State. His roots are in teaching secondary mathematics, with significant involvement in the development of state assessments and professional learning. Brian works alongside K-12 teachers, principals and administrators to develop their understanding and use of data. While serving on Washington State assessment and formative assessment technical advisory committees, as well as the state assessment directors’ network, he advocates for data-driven improvement to find its place alongside data-driven accountability. Measurement of non-cognitive factors in school success is an area of interest for him. Brian holds a BS in Mathematics and MEd in Secondary Education from Western Washington University.
